Chick 🐥 Peck my Son’s Eye 👁

Ive gotten pecked in the eye before. More than once. Younger birds seem to do it more.

Okay my son is not the only one! The eye doctor said my son was the first he has seen.

Most of the time, it's when they're waiting for the show to start or the judge is done with the bird and they lay their head on their arms to look at the bird.

Well, a lot of people probably don't go in to the eye doctor when it happens. I wouldn't unless it started to really be painful or I couldn't see right.

It's the same for me. I just had a gritty feeling in my eye for a little while -- no blood or intense pain or anything.
I can definitely understand why one would take their child to the eye doctor in such a case, though. Chickens can peck very hard! Poppy has almost drawn blood before -- yikes!

He couldn’t see well and he was crying and complaining, which is not like him. He couldn’t even read the top line of the really big lines at the doc office. The abrasion is horizontal on his cornea directly in his line of vision and that is why he cannot see/read well.

Goodness. I have been pecked in the eye a couple times and once it was pretty painful. My vision was blurred for hours. Injuries to kids are scary! You definitely did the right thing taking him in. Hope it heals quickly

Chicks sure love shiny eyeballs. They also love nostrils and earholes.
My grandma had gotten pecked in the eye by a curious chick and it caused a bleed but she got better. The baby meant no malicious intent.

My young chicks like to stick their faces into my ears for some reason and grind their beaks.

Yep, eye injuries hurt. It will hurt for a good 2-3 days and then will improve quickly. It's too bad the numbing drops they use to inspect the eye inhibit healing (so you don't get to take those at home).

You are correct! No numbing drops at home. I was wondering why the doctor didn’t give my son a numbing drop prescription (he did get a drop for the examination) to help with the discomfort but that makes sense that they inhibit healing.
