I have one silkie out of 3 now. The other 2 in the last 48 hours have died (I explained it more in detail in my last thread) my question is what do I do for it?? It’s alone and SCREAMING. I feel like it’ll probably die too from stress. So sad I can’t believe this has been my first experience 😭

This was the last 2 yesterday afternoon. Fast forward to last night and all of a sudden the one on the right (smaller of the 2) is all lethargic and weird. I just don’t get it ☹️

Until you can get another chick, you'll need to help this one feel less alone. People have said feather dusters or stuffed animals can help the chick feel less alone.

I did raise one lone chick, but I kept her with me constantly, as in under my shirt as I read on the couch, and on my lap driving for curbside pickup of groceries. At night, I made sure her brooder was in a dark place, and I didn't let light in until the morning when I was up and ready to be a chicken mom again. She got a friend when she was about 4 weeks old, and they still managed to become friendly with each other.

You can try electrolytes for yours now to help combat stress, but the best thing for her is a friend.

What is your setup like? Chicks can die from shipping stress, but the brooder is also important. What feed do you have, and which waterer? Does the chick have a cooler place to go in the brooder?

I'm so sorry for your experience:hugs We lost a chick with each of our first two batches. The first one lasted a week before dying and the second one didn't even make it through the night. Unfortunately, shipping can be hard on the babies even when it goes right.
Do you have a nearby Tractor Supply, feed store or in my area... Ace Hardware? Our TS stores just received their first shipment of chicks this past Wednesday. I would call and ask what day they usually get chicks in and if you can, be there first thing in the morning. Our store was sold out by 1pm.
I have seen some people try placing a small stuffed animal in the brooder with a single baby. It may be worth trying until you can get your chick some friends.

I also got a Singleton from my Bantie hen. Screaming as well in the brooder in my house. Got her a small stuffed chick toy and a mirror till I could get a buddy. She calmed down a bit with those. 4 days later, was able to get 4 ee buddies for her. All is well in the World now. Could you get a buddy? Not to ignore the death issues you had. 😖 So sorry!

No that’s a really good idea thank you! I wasn’t sure if placing a stuffed animal was a bad idea or not bc I didn’t want it to like…eat it??? But I’ll try! I’m gonna see if my TS or anywhere has chicks so it can have a friend

Thank you! I just checked TS and they have some chicks but only in 10 count options?! Which I DO NOT have the space for at all…ahhh. I emailed my seller over the last 3 days with updates on what has been happening but no reply yet. They were guaranteed so hopefully I get a fresh batch sent this week…I will try a tiny mirror for now and hope that keeps it sane until I can figure out when I’ll get more chicks

Definitely try getting it some friends, another trich you might want to try is covering the brooder so it'll think it's nighttime, and will go to sleep. But your chick needs some company ASAP
I was thinking about doing that but then thought wait- maybe this is dumb because it needs ventilation but I think If I leave a sliver open it’ll be ok.
