I have a question I'm use to having chickens in the past. I'm going to get baby chicks this spring but I'm also thinking about getting a couple turtles. But I was wondering when they are baby's can I put them all together or do I have to separate the chickens and the turkeys.. if I do have to separate the turkeys do I have to have a special set up for them.

It's best if they are raised separately so they don't imprint on each other and also because they have different feed requirements.

They can be raised together, using turkey (gamebird) starter.. but as previously stated it's not really a wise choice.

Turkey's will not thrive on standard chick starter as their amino acid requirements for their growth rate is much higher.

From my experiences raising turkeys with chicks beyond a few weeks I wouldn't recommend it. The turkeys will imprint on the chicks and not understand they are different species. I've had young jakes kill a cockerel fighting for dominance, and turkeys will attempt to mate chickenhens and will kill them. They are completely different species behaviorally. Best to raise them separately.

That what I was wondering I have seen them together when they are adults. But I don't know much about Turkeys and on top of that if they should be together.. thank you for the information

I do let mine free range in the same area when adults. They generally mind their own business. Turkeys are always locked up at the end of the day. Those first turkeys I had that were raised with the chicks ended up in the freezer. I just couldn't trust them, and turkeys are too strong and relentless.
