My 7 week old chick ate rotten food that my husband spread out on the ground to dry. It smells like raw sewage. 24 hours after eating it, she lost function of her legs and lays limp with her neck streatched out. Is this a sign of botulism? Does Mareck's disease present itself that quickly? I'm at a loss how to help her. She seems to be fading fast

Touch the corner of here eye and see if the inner eyelid blinks. Also would be helpful to see a picture of her.

It does seem to be blinking. She perked up when I turned on the light to get a picture, but is mostly sleeping with her neck stretched out, head down.

When they have botulism (limberneck), one of the tests is to check for the blink response. She's blinking, and she can hold her head up, so I'm gonna guess that it's not botulism. Can you post a picture of her poop?

I can as soon as she has a poop :) Thank you.

Unfortunately there aren't any vet's in the area who treat chickens. I'm going to try the co-op. I've had some success there with knowledgeable chicken owners.
