I wish I could introduce myself in this post instead of begging for help. But I'm in dire need. We have 5-2 week old silkies and today my daughter wanted to take them outside bc it was so warm. I agreed she could but I'd have to put our dog up first. Evidentally her and my son didn't hear that part bc they took them out the door in a bucket and my dog literally knocked them down and grabbed 2 of the chicks. One got away but the other was fully in his mouth and I had to beat him in the head to release it. This poor baby is moving around very little at first and seemed like her foot was hurt. I kept her seperate from the other chicks and now she is laying there breathing heavy and now her belly has swollen. Is that a sign of internal breathing? Is there anything we can do for her? My daughter is absolutely devastated. I can't believe I let this happen. I was trying to get lunch on and should have been better supervising the kids with the babies. Now my daughter is blaming herself bc she didn't wait on me to put our dog in the lot. When we got the chicks we explained to her things like this could happen, especially having an Alaskan Malamute. I was hoping he would be ok with them bc we have showed them to him constantly since we got them at a day old. He never showed any aggression toward them but I still didn't trust him due to natural instinct. Please help me save this poor baby!

Thank You. A vet is not an option for the chicks. My husband says this is part of homesteading and we will have many more disasters with predators. He says it's just part of raising chickens. I'll attach some pics of her. She is still alive but just huddled up in the corner and she cries when you touch her. Her little belly is swollen and it is kind of hard.

I am sorry about your chick! Can it move its legs at all? I believe it should be fine if it can. If they are limp and not moving then they are probably broken.

No visible wounds? Try putting a half a crushed baby aspirin in her water. Is she eating or drinking? Might be a broken keg or something of that nature, if you can feel around for anything broken you can search the site in how to splint it. Right now just keep her somewhere warm, calm, and safe. If you have poultry nutridrench on hand a dose of that wouldn't hurt at all. Hopefully someone more experienced than I with injuries will happen along with better advice

No visible wounds and her leg doesn't seem broken. Maybe just hurt from the trauma. I've felt around on her stomach and sides and I don't feel anything that feels broken either. Her little belly is just swollen and it wasn't like that before. She is not eating or drinking anything. When I move her to them she crawls back to the corner. Love her heart. I feel horrible she has went through this. I pray she makes it. I will check with tractor supply and see if I can get something to help her. I have put her by herself with a lamp, food and water, the other chicks are too wild to have her with them.

She is moving around just not easily but nothing feels broken. Im worried about her swollen belly. Is that normal for trauma like this or could it be internal bleeding?
