Chick attacks

I have a black chick 2 months old with brown stripes on her chest she attacks me, she cocks her neck to one side when I hold her as if she’s going to peck my eyes out and the other day I was holding another chick same age and she tried to fly on my back and clawed me. She’s very bold. Is this supposed to happen? Why is it happening? I hope she a pullet and not a cockerel. Did I do something wrong?

No you didn't do something wrong. You definitely have an aggressive bird, and they can ruin the whole chicken experience. A lot of chickens don't make real good pets, but may do fine in a more agricultural type set up, a true ranch or farm. Some don't do well being handled. This bird would be culled here either by dispatching him or selling him or giving him away.

I would strongly expect this bird to be a cockerel, and I would not keep him myself. If you have small children you need t one VERY AWARE and cautious, people have had bad wrecks with aggressive birds.

Could be a cockerel

I was wondering that even though I have two of the same black birds but only one does that to me. He/she is almost 10 weeks old next week so we will see if it starts cockadoodling or not.

Thank you I don’t have little kids mi e are all grown but yes something to be aware of.

Thanks I will definitely do that tomorrow as I only have a picture of when they were a few days old. The two were jet black all over. I assumed they could be Black sex links but I’m not for sure now that they both have brown strips on their chest. I will post pics tomorrow.

I have another one I thought was a brown leghorn but she has grey hair on her ears so now I don’t know what she is either.
