OK I was wondering if someone has had a problem with this before or what the cause might be. I had 2 batches of eggs in the incubator from 2 different sources, both were shipped through the mail and both were set at the same time. The first batch hatched just fine, I only had 2 that didn't. The second batch had a lot of problems, only 1 egg made it to lockdown, the only bantam in the bunch that came as a bonus. Well 2 days past due date but still not seeing pips, I figured it was a quitter so I poked a small hole into the end just to see if there still was anyone home. Well to my surprise I began hearing very weak peeping. I carefully peeled a bit more back making sure not to break any blood vessels and saw that the peep was in there the wrong way and had it's head toward the pointy end of the egg and wasn't at the end with the air bubble. I peeled back little by little over the next few hours trying to save this guy from suffocating and finally got him out. He is fully formed, had the yolk absorbed and the belly is closed. He was dry this morning, was sitting and looked stronger so I tried putting him in with the other peeps, but they actually attacked him as soon as he was in there, not the usual chick pecking, but they ran at him pecking him hard. I guess I will put him in the peep ICU for now and keep him by himself. I wonder if he has problems that aren't apparent yet and that's why the others don't want him in the brooder.
So I was wondering if anyone has seen this before, what causes them not to turn around for hatching? I don't think it's an incubator issue since the other eggs did perfectly fine.

Not sure why it happens, maybe the peeping was making the others nervous, but they were probably just checking on him, when pecking . its normal. sometimes they "cleaned" up the stuff off each other is why they look like they were bullies!. glad you were able to save it.

Wait til that chick is strong and moving around really well and put it back with the other chicks. Chicks peck at each other. From the start they develop a pecking order. Just watch it to make sure it doesn't get injured if it's much smaller then the rest.

I'm not sure why it happens but when you put the chick back in and if you have more then 2 chicks I take out some chicks and move them this way it will have a better chance. Then after a day take some of those chicks out it is with and put some of the others back in. I know it will take a couple of days but it works for me. Good luck.

Well he seemed fairly strong for what he went through, so I put him into the brooder, but I stuck him back in the incubator for a few hours until he began being more active and seemed very impatient to get out. I refilled the food in the brooder so the other guys were distracted by the food and the little guy ended up joining in and after one of the bigger guys pecked him he pecked right back, so I think he can hold his own now. The odd thing is I noticed he didn't have an egg tooth on his beak. I wonder if that was the reason for him not being able to get out of the shell and maybe that caused him to shift inside. I guess I have to come up with a name for him, 'Miracle' or 'Wonder Hen' seems appropriate
