Chick brooder stinks!!!!

hinkjc is right. All meat birds do is eat and poop and sleep. They don't like to play or explore like layers do.

I would suggest you use Sweet PDZ in with the shavings. It will help greatly with the odor. We get it at our local farm co-op and use it in the hen house. It's also great in your cat's litter box.

Just keep thinking ... It won't be long until they go to freezer camp!

We also have cornish x.....funny story....my grandson was to show them for 4 H...but we bought the WAY too early...well, they are in a seperate brooder, in the shop...away from the house...with a heat lamp. A few days ago my grandson came over....and wanted to check on "his" chickens....when we went in there he saw the heat lamp, and smelled the chickens...he looked at me and said..... "grandma....I think the light is too hot, they smell like they are cooking" !! Out of the mouth of babes!! Anyhow...they DO have thier "own" smell...and strong! 2 more weeks....and they WILL have a good smell! In the broiler!

I just finished making arrangements with CranberryBirds to buy Fort Brawks! I’m going to pick it up on Sunday, so the meat chicks might be moved into there for their remaining time. I hope they will get a chance to go outside some before their short end 

It is still cool/cold here and they are still not fully feathered. I will try finding the Sweet PDZ, is this similar to DE, or do they do separate things? Should I use both?

Changing the litter every day seems like an expensive proposition, I don’t want these guys to cost more than necessary, but while keeping everything healthy/happy. But like you guys said they are poop machines!

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and recommendations. TTYL!
