Chick Can’t Seem to Open its Eye

Hi all!

Very new chicken owner here. I just picked up this girl (along with 3 others) yesterday afternoon and today I noticed that she can’t seem to open her left eye. I can see the eye moving around but it’s almost appears as if it’s stuck shut? It doesn’t seem irritated or swollen, though she would not really let me touch it. She appears otherwise healthy and is both eating and drinking and getting around normally. Any advice is appreciated!

Well within literal minutes of writing this post, I went to check on her again and both eyes are now open! But either way, if anyone knows what potential reasons this would happen I am all ears!

She might have been pecked in the eye by another chick, which can be common. I would keep an eye on it, and you can use a lubricating eye drop or even a dab of plain Neosporin ointment in the eye which might help if it is irritated. If she keeps it open most of the time, I would,skip all that.
