Chick can’t walk

I have a 2 day old chick that hatch late and I had to help. Her legs aren’t straight, but she is trying and kicking her legs. I’m giving her milk and water with a syringe. What else should I give her? And how often?

So sorry to hear about your baby chick. Could post a few pictures, or a video of her legs?

Baby chicks can suffer from several legs problems, such as malpositions that occurred during the hatch, slipped tendons, splayed legs, or a genetic abnormality. Pictures would help determine the cause to a degree.

If her legs are bowing outwards it may be best to implement a hobble. Rotation of the hock, or "fusion of the joint, will prove to be harder to treat. I would keep her in a warm area, with plenty of traction. Dripping a drop or two of a poultry vitamin such as Nutri-dench along her beak, being careful not to aspirate her would be good, as well as offering her warm soupy feed, or mashed scrambled eggs. I would stop the milk.

Look for a chick vitamin with riboflavin or B2, which you can find in Poultry Cell—dosage is 2 drops daily, or you can use human B complex. Dosage is 1/4 tablet crushed into a little water or food. Milk is not a food for chicken. Feed water chick feed and feeding some egg yolk may be helpful as well.
