Chick developing in freshly laid egg

I don't see any other explanation for this.  You moved her into that pen, right?  I wonder if the stress of that might have caused her to ovulate and those eggs got fertilized by viable sperm in her reproductive tract, then developed.  Has she laid any more eggs besides those three?

Yes I moved her in that pen and let her set on some odd eggs to make sure she was going to stick then I put the other eggs she hatched out last week under her. But she had probably been broody at least two weeks before I put her in that pen. No she hasn't laid any more eggs. Another thing, all the eggs that were being hatched out in that pen were a totally different color than the eggs she lays. I'm sure they were hers.

I sure am glad to find this thread!! Wisher, you are not crazy!!

I have three broodies in a pen to their selves. (All three broodies were one year old in March 2014 and in good health as far as I can tell.) Two just hatched out their eggs last week. About two days after they hatched out their eggs one started laying again. She laid an egg three days in a row. Usually she lays a large egg but these three eggs were jumbos. I collected them when they were laid and brought them in the house same as the other layer's eggs. Yesterday I decided to break one of the eggs to see if it was a double yolker or what.

Here is what was in the egg...

Notice the head at the top and the feet/legs at the bottom. The other two eggs have well developed chicks in them too. The hen must have has fertilized eggs inside her when she went broody and for some reason the chicks started developing. Very hard to believe but that is what happened. I also hope that I haven't sold anybody eggs like this!! I am buying or making a candler!!
That is absolutely incredible, I have never heard of such a thing! Following........

I agree. I couldn't believe it. And it wasn't just one egg, it was three. Crazy!
And it cost me my lunch when I saw the pictures of all three "eggs" this afternoon!

Ah, I wouldn't worry! If I hadn't seen it happen to you, then spotted this thread, I wouldn't have believed it, so maybe if a customer got one or two they'd never mention it for fear of not being believed anyway!

**Update on the eggs I thought/think my broody might have laid. This morning I found eggs missing from a nest across the pen from where those eggs were found. I don't know how but there is a possibility that the hens moved those eggs. The eggs missing are similar enough to the eggs that the hen lays that I could have been wrong. Personally, it is easier for me to believe that the hens moved the eggs than to believe that the hen laid those eggs. I HOPE the eggs were moved. Then I won't have to worry about my hen going to keel over dead on me. Either way, there are strange things going on in that chicken coop! LOL
