Like I said I tried my best. Read a lot of different sites and am learning from this experience. Not sure why I have shrink wrapped chicks and not drowned chicks though if it was too wet? So far I haven’t seen any sticky chicks or really any drowned (besides the first death maybe) but I haven’t opened the duds yet either.

Not really because possibly rotten and you won't know.

How do I tell which eggs left are viable? I floated a couple and they floated 90% under water and the pointy end down. I don’t see any movement when candled

If they were mine I would start by making a small hole and check for movement. If no movement I would proceed to peel away a little shell over the air cell. Read this:

When I get one like that I drip a little betadine or chlorhexidine on it and keep it in a very dry, soft, and clean place until it heals.

Yes this was a good read! It’s why I made the hole in the one and saw a dead shrink wrapped baby. But to be honest I just don’t have time. I have 3 little boys and I’m 8.5 pregnant with another and this whole hatching I’ve neglected them to tend on these eggs lol. I don’t have the time to inspect each egg and then possibly attempt a rescue mission.

I will just wait and see another 24 hours or so

The navel isn't fully closed, my recommendation is the same as mentioned earlier. Try to keep the brooder clean to reduce chances of infection. Dab some chlorhexidine or antibiotic ointment without pain reliever onto the navel about once daily and hope for the best.
How is the rest of the hatch going? Did the rest finish hatching?

Does polysporin work? J think that’s all I have.


I have one more hatching as we speak which brings us to 10. Still 14 eggs I need to check and see if there’s any signs of life.

I’m feeling better today. I gave it my best and that’s all I can do!

I have zero experience with polysporin, but upon a quick google search it does appear to be safe for chickens.

Exactly! You did a great! When hatches are difficult like this even a seasoned veteran will feel the pressure! That's why so many of us try to help through difficult hatches, even online because we've been there and we know how hard it can be!

I move them as soon as they can walk is their umbilicus looks good.

Also there’s another one with poop stuck to it’s fluff and an egg shell on it too. Just warm water to remove? Thanks

So I started this with one. I candled. Made a hole in the top by the air pocket. And looked inside. No movement and the inner membrane is all around the baby. Shrink wrapped? Goner?

It's a steep learning curve for sure. Lots to be learned by opening the duds, I always open mine.

here are my 3 weird butt chicks

I put more ointment on and they’re in the brooder now with the rest of them.

the one looks like maybe a tiny tiny tiny bit of yolk as it’s yellow?

the other is just egg shell glued on by goo but its like gorilla glued on

and the other is just maybe bloody?
