Chick disappeared!

I don't know what breed of chicken these babies were, but I have silkie chicks right now and let me tell you, they could run like the wind from the time they hopped out of the egg !!!
So you might want to check a little farther out than just outside the door, although by now if she did get out, it probably won't turn out well for her. I'm sorry.

I don't think I'll be able to find her but thanks for your help everyone but I don't think you can help because it's already 6:30 in Australia and there's nothing I can do

I'm very sorry about your little chick! It's hard to lose them so young. Or really...at any age...
Good luck and let us know if you do happen to find her. One of my adult roosters went missing for a week one time. Showed up 5 days later looking all disheveled, but alive! So you just never know!

They are day olds and were in a coop underneath a duck that they think is there mother and when I checked on them it was gone and the other chick was under the duck and I was thinking of a cat but there aren't any I know of and anyway wouldn't the cat have taken both chicks if not the duck? And the hole that the chickens go into is very low to the ground under a tree and seems very unlikely for a bird so I really don't know!

Any hole a chicken can go through can easily be located (scent) and used by any number of predatory animals.

If she could slip throught the hole then its easy to assume a predator might slip in (like a rat) or that she slipped out then a hawk or other bird could have got her (or any number of predator).

You'd have to ask that on the aussie thread, I have no idea what your predators are like - size, eating habits etc. But, surely a snake could have snatched your chick. Could she have gotten into something inside your coop, sometimes a bucket overturns on them and they can't get out.
