My chick literally just hatched minutes ago. Everything looks great but there's the tiniest little string stuck from the butt to the eggshell and the chick is dragging it all around the incubator. It seems pretty frustrated. I'm assuming it will dry up and break off. Do I need to do anything?

If that is the only chick, or the last one to hatch: you can take it out and try to stop the bleeding.

If there are other eggs that need to hatch, and the bleeding is just a little bit, I would leave it in the incubator and watch how it does.

If there are other eggs that need to hatch, but the chick is bleeding badly, I would probably open the incubator, grab the chick, and close the incubator again. Have a brooder ready to put the chick in after you deal with the bleeding, rather than trying to stick it back in the incubator.

For how to actually deal with the bleeding, I'm not quite sure-- maybe one of the things people recommend when a dog's toenail is bleeding.

Oh, you have another post about "butt bleeding" .... 2x ^^^
Corn starch, even flour will help the bleeding but it depends on the intensity and why it's bleeding from the "butt". Picture would help to ID the area of bleed. Thinking it's the umbilical cord area?

The chick stopped bleeding after I put the cornstarch on. I made the additional thread under emergencies out of desperation. Thank you everyone! I do believe it was the umbilical cord not completely dried out. My little love made it through the night and is fluffing out!

Here's Lucky, the star of the post at the very bottom. Think it may be a BCM or French Maran. I don't know the difference. Pretty sure it will be my only hatch from 24 shipped eggs so I went to TSC and picked up some buddies. TSC and their suppliers are absolutely awful with labeling breeds correctly. Tried saying Guineas were white crested black polish 🙄 Anyway, the four other chicks are (maybe) GLW, calico princess, or Australorp. Your thoughts. Also, Lucky is the tiniest thing I've ever seen in my life. It's hard to tell the size difference in these pictures.
