Hi everyone, I recently got a bunch of Buff Orp chicks, some BRs, and a bunch of broad breasted turkey poults. They were all happily exploring their brooder last night when I checked on them.
This morning, I went out to my barn to check on them, and the heat lamp had gone out. It snowed last night and was really cold. The chicken chicks seemed fine, they were all huddled together in a corner keeping warm. The poults, however, were not. They were spread throughout the brooder, and didn't have enough sense to huddle together.
A few lucky ones were huddled in with the chickens.
I immediately put them all in a box and brought them in my house.
In the future, I think I will have at least two heat lamps so one won't burn out.

I have them in front of a heater, and the chickens seem fine but it looks like I am going to lose a few turkeys. Any advice? I don't know what to do.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hypothermia can appear worse than it is. Quick action usually revives these birds. Treat each one with warm sugar water and electrolytes for shock. At the same time, warm the breast and wing pits with a warm hair dryer, then wrap all of them in a big towel warmed in the clothes dryer.

Many of us have had this happen where the heat source goes out during the night due to a power failure. I was stupid enough to forget to hit the "stay-on" button on my Mama Heating Pad heat source and my week-old chicks had to survive the cold night without their heat source.

Ok, thank you so much!

Let us know how they're doing! :fl :hugs Sending positive waves and hugs.
Thanks! They seem to be fine so far, will upload pics in a minute.
I gave them sugar water, then gave them some water with Rooster Booster in it and they seem to be doing better.
Thanks again for all the helpful advice and encouragement, everyone! I really needed it.

Here is a pic, they seem normal.
They are placed in a warm room in my house next to a heater. I also filled a mason jar with hot water and put it in the corner for them, and it seemed to help. I gave them food, but took out the feeder to refill it at the time of this pic. Sorry it's a bit blurry!

I think the chicks are not doing well, I lost a turkey poult last night.
One more is dying. It is shivering and vibrating its wings. The rest of the turkeys are actng cold, puffing up and huddling together.
I inspected the feces, some have blood.
Is the shivering and shaking caused by cold, or could it be coccidia?
Sorry to bother everyone, but I dont want ot loose my whole flock!
