Chick feed is for chicks not laying hens!!

I know this is of topic but I'm glad i live where there is a mill close by. Couldn't imagine spending that much on chick starter. 50 lbs of game bird feed was only 13 dollars last week.

I suspect part of the cost the OP is experiencing is due to the choice to seek and feed organic feeds -- as with "organic" food for humans, organic pet food formulas come with a price tag.

Lucky!!!!!! That's auch a good price. I want to eventualy just become a distributor of a company I love and get the feed I need basicly for free and be able to provide organic feed for others

Perfect. That's exactt what I need to do. I spent $37 on a 25 lb bag of chick starter at the farm store...the lady who woks there is a jerk and when I asked for organic grower she said there no such thing an I treid to explain what it was and she said "nope with organic feed there's only chick and layer feed, they don't use grower in organic"......I didn't wanna argue...not gettig food from there anymore lol. A 50 lb bag is $30 with the country side place!

With prices and an attitude like that, it sounds like she has a bone to pick with organic feed. The organic certification program is flawed, but in general, it is better than non-organic. Non-organic corn and soy (often main ingredients in feeds) are nearly 100% sure to be highly sprayed with toxic Roundup. I just learned that wheat is often sprayed with a Roundup just before harvest because it kills the plant, promoting it to dry out more quickly. You can't wash this stuff off, people. Roundup is NOT allowed in organic agriculture.

Glad to hear you found another source for organic feed. And as you've discovered, organic feed certainly does come in Grower.

We have a separate coop for the chicks until they are 16 weeks and can eat layer feed. From prior experiences with predators in this area we don't let chicks free range until 16 weeks. Life expectancy is longer that way in our area. :)

Yeah round up and all te other toxins....ugh America can be lazy as hell sometimes. "We can use this poison to do the job instead of paying a couple people to do it, ooooh now children are growing fingers outa there faces? Well call it a disease and it may or may not be from what we're putting in an on food."

I know that's exagerated..lol me and my bf had an idea of having a fruit stand. One side is organic one side in conventional. Really all of the fruit is organic right?...so at this fruit stand let's say you want an apple. Organic or conventional? Organic is $1. Conventional is .50 cents BUT before we hand it to you were gonna douce it in round up to make sure there's no pests. Enjoy!
