Hi! I'm new here.
We've just started letting our silkie hatch out some eggs. But, just so we're prepared, I was wondering what exactly to feed chicks. I know there is feed that you can buy, but is there a feed that is safe for them that I can make?
Thanks!

Baby chicks need a delicate balance of nutrients so all I've ever heard is that the stuff you buy is best. The real trick that I want to know is how do you keep the big girls from eating all the chick food? Your mama hen will take the babies out after a few days and start introducing them to bugs and greens too.

I use chick starter for chicks, the moma eats it too. I take them out an hr a so a day for free range. They LOVE bugs. I also give them some cornbread crumbs all along and veggies. They LOVE tomatoes too.
