Dont want to hijack this thread but how do you guys get these pics. I tried with flash just brightens room, without flash nothing and I have a good camara
You need a good light and a good camera set on macro mode. Better would be bright light and a tripod focused just right in a dark room, but that's more stuff than I have.
I use a surefire or eagle tac to illuminate the eggs and then use macro mode on my camera to take pics. I describe my set up in this thread .

i got my best pictures of candeling with my cellphone... lol...
the picture is not as sharp as it could be, but you can definatley see the veining... dark room no flash...
any other camera i tried the pics you couldn't see the veins...
Its day 5 or maybe 6 so your right on the money Silkiechicken, impressive. And mstricer I took the pic on macro setting and my set up is just a piece of cardboard with a hole cut in it set over a normal table lamp with the egg sitting in the hole. It was pretty dark in the room because it was early and raining out, but it wasnt pitch dark. I was too cheap and lazy to build or buy a proper egg candling station.
Hey, use what works! Anything that can focus a good light source is golden when it comes to picture taking. A camera with a good image stabilization package will also help out when trying to take dark pictures.
