Have 2 black silkie chicks almost 2 weeks old.. both get pasty butt but 1 of them has an extended vent from her pushing before (her siblings vent doesn’t stick out at all, and the one with the extended vent the poop literally sticks to it and falls out, he sister doesn’t build up paste nearly as bad but still does, she seems in pain everyday and we have to clean it every day.. any recommendations? Might have to clean it twice a day as bad as it gets and we’re not capable of that due to our living situation, her vent sticks out about 1-2 mm compared to her sibling.. would hate to cull it, just don’t want it suffering uncontrollably, she’s had pasty butt since we got her at tractor supply, just worries when egg laying comes around months down the road, she’ll really be hurting or her insides will be her outsides... don’t know what to do, the feces hardens so fast and we can barely clean her once a day. And she’ll need it twice a day, we trimmed her butt fuzz and still no progress, the poop builds up extremely fast, and her behavior is slightly different than the other 5 chicks, she’s the least lively and walks with her wings semi-out in comparison to the rest, haven’t had a chick this bad, any help or recommendations are appreciated!

I don’t know much about this but hopefully a comment will bump this thread
Can you add more info for others
What’s the brooder set up ?
What’s is the heat reading ?
What kind of bedding are you using and to you supply chic grit if using wood shavings
I have heard reading other posts that one reason for pasty butt is to high of heat and if baby’s eat the wood chips getting in the feed or water they need the grit to help digest it
Other then that I have no idea but hope somebody can help

Once you clean their bottoms put a little coconut oil on the area around the vent to prevent sticking to the skin and feathers ACV in their water will help with pasty butt. 2 T per gallon and give them fresh water without it as well. Or you can provide some Save A Chick probiotics for them, they’re in the little packets next to the electrolytes of the same brand.

What is the temperature of your brooder, and is there a cooler area to get to if too warm? Is the chick drinking enough water, and eating as well? What are you feeding? Try some solid coconut oil cut into small chips (about 1/4 tsp) to peck today. That may lubricate the GI tract. There may be some problem with digestion.
