Chick Grit

I had no plans to feed my chicks anything other than chick starter. When a big fat moth decided the heat lamp was just to amazing to avoid, he ended up in my brooder then swiftly turned into a chick football and the game of chase was on. Two of the chicks finally tore the big moth in half and gobbled it down. This all happened in a matter of seconds before I could react. It was at that moment I knew I better get some sort of grit for them. There are some sands that will work and others that will not. Do a quick search and you will find a few topics on it. I found it easier and fool proof to just by the Chick Grit from TSC.

We bought some chick grit to offer as we plan on adding some other goodies to their diet--sprouted grains, bugs, worms... We hope to make good foragers of our chicks. Since they will be living in the brooder they won't have access to all the natural grit in the dirt. We bought it from the same people who made our feed and it is sized considerably smaller than the regular grit was. Chick Grit was size labeled size #1 and layer grit was labeled size #3.

Not sure. My plan is to use the 5lbs of chick grit I already bought and then buy the regular size grit to offer free choice after that. Mine should be free ranging by then so finding "free" grit.
