Chick GROW-OUT Thread ***UPDATE WITH PICS!***

Cari, That picture is so darn CUTE. I love where that Barred Rock decided to roost. HA!

I think yours are probably slower to grow the feathers since they are indoors and it is probably much warmer. Mine are in a room behind the garage and it is quite cool in there. I think mine are in between yours and Al's. Mine are at that awkward stage where they are not all that cute anymore. I will look and see about feather sexing. I can clearly see it on the Cornish X but not so sure about the others. I have the 2 Black Australorps that I think are male and then there is another that I am not sure of. Not so much the comb but it is HUGE. It seems like I took one of the Cornish X by accident.

Whoa! Pound and a half? It actually sounds about right since they are almost 3 weeks.

The rocks are SO full of personality! They aren't as friendly as I'd like, some still freak out when I go in there, but settle down shortly thereafter.

Hopefully (maybe since it's both) the Australorps just grow differently. I'm crossing my fingers they are girls for you. It would seem odd that BOTH would be boys.

If you had one of the Cornish you would know, they are 4x bigger than anyone else, already a pound and a half; you would know instantly.

Ps. How are the little deli's doing?

I can't wait to see them.

Cari, Gosh I hope you are right about the Black Australorps. It would seem strange that they would goof up on both. I really think I am okay this time around. I have not named anyone yet and I feel distant enough if that makes any sense. I feel like I can let them go. Not sure which variety at this point but there are a couple that are really fiesty. When the dogs go and check them out they look like they want to peck the dogs. They look armed and ready.

Yeah, you are right. Maybe not Cornish X but it is so much bigger than the rest that it makes me wonder if it is a roo.

Oh, I think the Del's will melt your heart. They are very friendly. This group from Privett's have been very HEALTHY and robust. They have been piglets. I am always refilling the trays in their brooder. I have been taking them outside more but I decided to keep them indoors today since it was really cold and wet in the morning. Then it got very windy. I will see what the weather is like tomorrow and see if they can be outdoors. They love it so much. The little Del's were playing tug or war w/ a grub. It was hilarious.

Forgot to do my 3 week update, and I didn't get weights either.

They were moved out to the new baby coop; the whole thing cost us less than 40 bucks to make.

It's working well very so far! Just a little worried about them because it has been so cold... but they seem fine so far!

Al, for some reason yours look MUCH bigger than mine... (excepting the cornish). Do you know how much they weigh?

And yes the little baby next to the cornish laying down is a BLRW bantam.

I do not have a scale, I pick up some and I think the heavy ones weight close to a pound not sure. Maybe it is the lack of heat that makes them grow quickier.

I know they eat a lot, I think each one ate around 1.25 pounds of feed already, plus the rice and grass that we threw in there.
