Al, I think you need a LARGER box.

They are getting BIG. Mine are outgrowing their digs too and I will be looking to move them soon.

Nancy,

I do have 2 cages that I can put them in but I think they would be warmer together in the small box at night in my garage since the nights had been dropping into the 50's. Remember I do not use any heat at all. That is just for sleeping, they go outside first thing in the morning and only comes in after dark.

3 more weeks or when I see that they have enough feathers and they will just stay outside.

By the way, anyone in San Diego has a 3 to 5 week old little rooster that you are trying to get rid of? A friend ask me but I have all pullets.

Hi Al, I think mine are SPOILED. I have been trying to turn the lights off and they are chirping so LOUD like someone is killing them. As soon as I turn it on, they will eat and then calm down. I have been taking them outside and letting them play in the dirt and they LOVE it. I try to leave them out for a few hours and then I bring them back in. They are not in a secure cage and I am afraid the neighborhood cats will get them so I have to stay out with them. They have been play flying and eating worms. Really growing like weeds. I doubt I can wait too much longer before I kick them outside. They are getting really messy.

Ask me in a few weeks about the roo. From the start, I was telling Cari that the Black Australorps are roos. God, I hope I am wrong. If I am right, maybe at the next meetup?

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if you can feather sex these ones? I just found out I can with the Cornish, I am going to go do it now! LoL.

Al- Yours definitely have a lot more feathers than mine. Probably from not as much heat. I have been turning the heat off during the day now. But on during the few cold hours at night. I hope they feather soon so I can move them outside!

Nancy- I am getting them used to the dark so when I move them to the baby coop they wont get scared and pile. They did chip like something was killing them at first, but now they've gotten used to it. They just cuddle together with their necks stretched out sleeping. Once in a while I will find one of the banties sleeping on top of the others lol.

Oh and mine play fly too! Like crazy- even the Cornish, in fact several of the barred rocks can already hop out of the tub!

I am getting ready to post my 3 week update. The cornish are huge... like a pound and a half already.

I cover up the box with a net then put a piece of cardboard on top and then a bath towel on top so it gets completely dark and they will go to sleep.

I think chickens are like people, I grow up not having and heat and I never turns on the furnace in the winter, but I know people who has their furnace on even during the day.

"like a pound and a half already." That is huge, need a picture before they grow bigger.

I trained mine to sleep in the dark since the day I got them so they don't really make any noise now, not until they morning anyways.

Re; Cornish, looks like I have 2 pullets and 4 cockerels. Too bad I don't have more pullets.

I'm posting update pics every 7 days.

Still 2 days short of 3 weeks, but here are some funny pics nonetheless.

They are VERY naked, I can see all their pink skin... can't wait for them to get feathers! Their heads look weird... Like little human heads! (This one is a few days old)
