Chick GROW-OUT Thread ***UPDATE WITH PICS!***

I agree with you, they are eating a lot, I have to go get some left over rice from the restaurant to cut down on the feeds a little.

Mine are making it difficult since all they seem to want is their feed. I have tried just about everything from boiled eggs, pasta, yogurt, grapes and salad greens and they will have none of it. Ugh.......... They would not touch the rice either. I put it on a plate and they stayed away from it like the plague. Then I threw it on the floor and one tried it and then the rest followed. So rice seems to be on their okay to eat list.

Mine is just the opposite, they have unlimit feed all day but they still eat anything and everything I we threw out there.

Maybe you should try putting one or two of your smallest hen in there to teach them.

I'm just sticking with the chick starter for now, and have been giving them a touch here and there of turkey starter (much higher protein) to help them feather out... But they go out in their yard every day (that it's not raining) and eat all the good stuff in there too. I haven't tried much other than the feed and yogurt.

Al, they are all I have. I do not have any hens or any other birds for that matter to teach them. I am just going to hope and pray that they will try different things. I remember before that my chickens would eat whatever we gave them. Have no clue how I ended up w/ gourmet chicks.

I had a couple of those "high class" chicks before, they would not eat anything that is on the ground for their first 6 months, if it was in the feeder they would eat it but once it falls to the ground none of these 2 will touch them.

Happy very late birthday and I'm glad you're enjoying your chicks! Hey, how do you do all those other smilies that aren't on the little smilie button?

I cannot believe these chicks. Not convinced they are gourmet nor "high class" anymore. They are outside today playing in the dirt and I have a persimmon tree and some were ripe so I decided to let them have some. They stayed away from it so I sprinkled their feed on it. Then I put feed on my hand and put some of the persimmon on it, they only ate the feed and when I put more persimmon they just ran away. So frustrating.

I went online to Azure thinking I should probably buy some more feed since it is once monthly. It has gone up another BUCK. As my friend told me, the eggs in March are going to be GOLDEN.

Well today is the day; they are now 5 weeks old!!! The come out every day to run around in the yard and LOVE to eat the grass and the green stuff... I took the weights of the Cornish and they were a full THREE and A HALF pounds!!!!

I didn't realized they had gained so much since I put them outside! They're huge!!! Such an amazing size difference from anything I have ever had before.

And here are some pictures!
