Chick has been stuck in the egg for hours and has made no progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been incubating eggs and today they are hatching, but one seems to be stuck it has been in the egg since 6:00 this morning and I am concerned that his is stuck because it has not made much progress since this morning it was doing great but now the membrane appears very dry and I don't know what to do. How long should I wait before assisting it?

Eggs can take up to 24 hours after pip to zip. I see an average of 12-18 hours with mine. It takes a long time for nature to do what it needs to do so they are ready to hatch healthy and strong. If the membrane is white and dry (papery) then that is a good sign. If it turns yellowish.brown and leathery then it's time to pull it out, moisten the membranes, increase the pip hole so you can see if that inner membrane has started to become glued to the chick, if it has, warm water to soften and gently pull it away from where it is stuck, wrap a wet paper towel around the egg (not covering the pip) and replace it to the bator (unless there is something that is wrong and constitutes an assisted hatch.) I went to check on it a few minutes ago and the membrane is completely stuck on the chick an the egg shell is pulling the fluff really bad any ideas? I am extremely worried about the chick.

Warm water. Either use a q-tip or cotton ball and wet the area of the membrane that is sticking to the chick you may have to remove the membrane by gently pulling it back with tweezers once it's moistened well.

I helped the chick out of the egg and it is doing better does any one have any idea how to get the humidity up I have a good sized Tupperware two large sponges and four plastic cups in it now is there any thing more I can put in to make it even humidity even higher?

What is your humidity? With that much surface area, you shouldn't need it any higher.

I am worried because I have an incubator that I can't see in and my thermometer only reads the humidity on the out side so I don't now what the humidity is at. Sorry.

The chick is doing better is almost standing now, but I am concerned about the other eggs I have some more eggs in the incubator that have not started do you think they will be ok?

You just have to sit back and see. I know how hard that is. I do recommend having a hygrometer though to keep an idea of what the humidity is. I don't think it should be an issue with all the containers and such you have in there. If you see condensation though, you need to cut it back, because that's too much humidity. How did you control your humidity for the first 17 days?

Humidity was fine for the first 17 days. The chick is doing great he's walking around inside the incubator I think he'll be fine thanks for all your help
