I have seven new chicks and i am noticing diarrhea daily in the brooder. I do not know which one it is because i haven't caught it doing the pooping. No ones butt is dirty and no one seems ill. What should i do?

I am keeping the brooder clean....I clean it twice a day and i change the water several times throughout the day.

Thank you for any info,
Jodie

I think some runny poop in the babies is pretty normal. I have one who has pretty runny droppings and she is healty and happy. They seem to me like baby people..the system is new and working out the kinks......poop isn't always going to look like we expect it to.

Jolyn,
I'm a newbie, but here's my input and a bump - I would check the temps to be sure that they are warm enough. I've read that if it's too cold they can have diarrhea. I keep the water clean, but don't clean out the coop. I'm using shavings. I'm told that it's important that they ingest a little poo to increase their immunities.

The chicks are nine days old. The temp in the brooder is 93 right this minute.....There is no draft in the room.

I have still been using paper towels......i'm so afraid they will eat the shavings so i keep the towels in there.

They all seem very healthy.

Thanks.....I had read on here about some disease that started with a C.....i can't find the post though......I got panicked that they were getting sick.

Oh gosh i feel like i've got six new children to take care of.

Well basically you do have six new children. Tehe! Your brooder temp is fine. I would just watch them. Is the C word your looking for coccidiosis? Your chick starter should have something in it to prevent that I believe.

When I had this problem someone here told me to use 2-3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar to 1 gallon of water for 3-4 days. Mine werent that young though. They were 7 weeks. I would think that it would be ok. It seemed to do the trick.
