Hi everyone, so I had 8 ayam cemani eggs in the incubator, they were supposed to hatch on the 10th of May at 23:00. 5 hatched, 2 were dead inside the egg and 1 is misteriously still alive in the egg but isn't showing any signs of wanting to come out. No internal nor external pip, I can clearly see blood vessels when candling though so he is still alive. I made a safety hole in case he decides to internally pip. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? If so what did you do?

I just had this happen. The chick was malpositiined. I did an assisted hatch and have a healthy chick from that egg.

I looked for the beak by carefully removing shell, but not either membrane, till I found it, starting at the air cell and using coconut oil to make the membranes transparent. Then I carefully opened enough of both membranes till it could get air. It did bleed quite a bit, and its veins were still thick, so I left it alone till they had been all the way absorbed, about 14 hours. Then I broke open just enough shell and membrane so it could fight its way out on its own. Except, it was too shrinkwrapped by then to get out on its own, so I ended up finishing it. It was very weak at first, so I gave it a mix of Nutri-drench and Sav-a-chick from a syringe for the first 24 hours. Now it is as active as the others from the hatch.

hi, thanks for replying. We'll be at day 23 in a couple hours and the chick is still alive but hasnt pipped neither the internal membrane nor the egg shell. Do you think I should give him a hand like you described?

Oh gosh, I am afraid to tell you to go for it and then have it go wrong! Can you hear it cheeping or anything? I was able to kind of guess where it's beak was positioned by listening to its cheeps. Maybe if you can hear it and you can tell that it isn't near the air cell you could carefully assist?

This is also a good resource: https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching.64660/

The thing is he has not started breathing yet. He is still completely inside the egg and hasn't even broken the membrane between the inside of the egg and the aircell. I think I'm gonna wait a few more days for him to internally pip at least and then take it from there

Just so you know, you can still hear them cheeping even if they haven't started breathing and are still completely inside the egg with no broken membranes. That's how mine was, too! I got it to cheep by tapping on the egg. Let me know how it turns out!

Right so, this morning I checked up on him and still nothing, i had enough so I did the procedure you described. There's no beak facing the air cell, but I can see his hips and the feet so I think he is really just upside down. I removed most of the membrane and applied styptic powder to stop the bleeding, he is movingmore freely now. I left him in the incubator, we'll see if he can get out on his own

sometimes it depends on the weather, just be a little bit more patient.. it will hatch eventually..
