Hi all!
I had a chick hatch 1.5 days before the others, now followed by 6 others and now another is just coming!
I know I cannot open the incubator while the one is hatching out and drying
But I am wondering if there is any concern of the one who’s been now without food/water since hatching on Sunday after I went to bed!
And it’s now Wednesday and another has begun!

Thank you! ❤️ 🐣

Yes.. drape towels to capture the heat and humidity and quickly but steadily pull out all the dry ones and place in brooder. Start water first then add feed in a couple hours.

72 hours from hatch is about a maximum time line for safety before they start failing from dehydration amd malnourishment.

Did you set them all on the same day?

Okay! I will get myself a towel and move quickly!

Do I wait until this one is out of shell? I see it’s beak and it’s got itself a little hole now

I put them all in the same day yes!

ive never had a problem opening the bator and removing them as they hatch, wet .. id say it cant be a big long operation though, where it chills everything down, more like tilt it up grab the chick and maybe the shell and close it .. drop him in the brooder and toss the shell out in the yard lol .. pretty much what i do ..

Shrink wrapping an externaly pipped chick is always possible.. the towel helps prevent this.

Sunday after you went to bed.. means more than 48 hours heading closer to the 72 mark for the first chick. These decisions are never easy.. but that's what I would do.

I disagree about smaller eggs hatching sooner than larger ones, espesially when we're talking about days apart. But there are many factors that can effect it. I hatch bantam and large fowl eggs.. all on day 21.. my incubator paramters are dialed in (now, after much trial and error).

What day is today (for incubation)? How many more eggs are ya waiting on beside the one currently zipping? Where's your humidity now?

Happy continued hatching! :jumpy :jumpy

I did use your trick and got them out and didn’t get below the recommended mark on the humidity!

Monday was day 21 and it is just this last one who is seeming to take its sweet time! My humidity is at 67% now

Thank you again!!

Just out of curiosity, at what point do you become concerned about the one who’s begun to break she’ll but not made too much progress since about 12 hours ago?

Thanks
