I had one like that last year, I kept it wrapped in a moist warm washcloth in the incubator (trying to give it time to "absorb" what I thought was the yolk at the time) but the poor baby did not live... I hope that your chick fares better... good luck!

I think you are the first person to answer a 'how to cull' question, no one wants to answer that question....

If you simply can not bring yourself to cut its head off, you may want to try what I read a couple of people did on this forum last year. It sounds very odd, but it was the only way they could bring themselves to cull a chick. They put it in a box, tucked the box up against the wheel of the car, and ran over it. The death was instant. I know it sounds bizarre and I was almost appalled when I first read it, but after reading pages of them agonizing over how to cull a chick, I realized this was the only way they could do it and not have nightmares. I know of at least two people that culled this way.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the very best of luck. Culling is never a pleasant thing, but it is sometimes the right thing to do.

Also the vinager and baking soda mixed together will make the baby fall alsleep and never wake up. Make sure you do it in a well ventilated room, or even outside.

I just had one pass a few weeks ago from that same thing. IT SUCKS!! It had hatched and the yolk wasn't all the way absorbed and I guess when it was pulling itself out of the egg, it ripped the yolk sac. It was a mess and all over the place. I made a little bath of warm water in my sink and dunked the baby in it. The warm water helped a little, and it started getting real active and even chirping again, but the suddenly died.

I've never had good experiences with those kinds of hatches and it just breaks my heart. I don't understand what makes them hatch themselves out if they aren't ready.

It past on it own a few minutes after I last posted. Im glad I didnt have to cull it...I just cant stand to do it....Im glad it went fast...thanks for all the replys!!!
