Chick Hatching!!!

Hi! Today is day 19 of incubating Silkie chicken eggs and I just heard a little cracking sound coming from one of them! Is this normal? I haven’t heard any chirps or other noises just this. Should I be worried?

Also I cannot tell which one is making this sound

That is normal. Keep us updated! I have egg hatching too. no peeping from mine yet either

Did one pip when you heard the crack? It could have been them wiggling around inside the egg and bumping in to other eggs.

um... I actually don’t know cause I can’t tell which one is making that sound.

If you shine a strong flashlight into the incubator and look at each egg, you should be able to see any pips. I have been doing it every few minutes with mine because I cannot wait

Also, they are in the same position as they were before. None of them are close to each other.

A day or 2 before they hatch the embryo draws calcium from the shell to make it more brittle, so maybe a brittle shell cracked as the chick rearranged itself. I wouldn't worry.
