I have had chickens for like 4 years now and I have never had this happen. I'm not sure if the chick is going to make it. I wanted to post this to warn some people about this because I never thought this would happen. Very scary!

I walked up to the cage where my hen and her newly born chicks are this afternoon. By the way the chicks are only a day old and hatched by the hen. I saw my hen eatting her own chicks. One is hurt really bad and another has a chunk missing out of its neck.
If you don't have a good stomach don't look at the pic. I am warning you. It is so sad.

I'm so sorry! I had a pullet get savaged like that, but she was a bit older - she pulled through with flying colors, so I hope your chick does, too! I washed the wound with saline and used neosporin and that was it.

I took all the babies out of all the diiferent broody cages and put them in my new brower brooder, so they are safe. I don't trust any hens anymore. I have put neo on the chick and it is resting right now. I hope it makes it.

My guess is as gross as that looks the chick will survive. I had a banty hen get a hold of two NN chicks the other day (newly hatched) she killed one and the other one was scalped worse than that plus a hole in its chest. He is doing good three days later.
