Chick ID ?

Quote:
Is there a difference in an EE and an Aracauna? We actually ordered an Aracauna. These two are definitely different looking chicks. Both in physical appearances and personality.

Guitartists - I'm not sure what a Pea comb is?

Araucanas are a blue egg layer, but they are tufted and rumpless...... because most people put those two together, the hatcheries continue to wrongly label their Easter Eggers as Araucanas and Ameraucanas

Stick around, you'll see plenty of posts here on the BYC about it.

A pea comb looks like little rows of peas..... here are some of my EEs

I hatched these from eggs I got from a private breeder....... so they do look a bit different from some of the hatchery stock.... but you get the idea. They can vary quite a bit even as chicks... though chipmunk stripes, green or slate legs and a pea comb are dead giveways

McMurray Hatchery calls their birds Auraucana/Americana. They are usually called EE's on BYC. They are not a true pure breed. We got one from McMurray too. A very calm beauty who laid turquoise colored eggs.

Yours has the wrong color legs for a Sussex... and I can;t find any pics of a Redcap chick... so that I couldn;t say. But many people have been getting EEs for their Rare breed chicks

That's a McMurray Easter Egger, which they label an Ameracauna in their catalogue. I got several from them, and they were each slightly different at that age (because, mutts, you know) -- one was just like your chick. They are all feathering out a little differently now.

Probably a roo, of course.

My understanding is that if you breed an EE roo to your hens, the offspring will lay blue eggs if they hatched from white eggs, and green or olive eggs if they hatched from brown eggs. So that's something you could do in the future.

Very cool information. Thanks!

Looks like we have a couple of EE's then. I have no problem with that.

I kept a pullet and a cockerel out of mine and I adore them..... even if the ONE roo I decided to keep is the most fearful

Oh well! LOL He is soooo handsome.... sometimes I think I should have kept one of the silver boys... they were so sweet

I'm so sorry, I was confused this morning. I did get these same chicks. They look like Speckled Sussex chicks but with the dark legs. They are NOT Red Caps, but Modern Black Breasted Red Games. I got both from Murray, and confused them.

Next time I will finish my coffee before posting

I realized my error about 20 minutes earlier but have not been near a computer.

Feathersite does not have chick pictures of the Modern BBR Game. But by about 4 weeks they will have the coloring and the long legs.
