Okay, to make all of this make sense I have to tell you about my hatch. It was rough. First the power was out around day 10 and my eggs got cold. Then on day 17 my cat crashed into my bator and 2 eggs cracked prompting me to go into early lockdown. THEN after moving the bator to where I thought it was safe, somehow in the middle of the night, and in the middle of the hatch, the thing got unplugged and I woke to stone cold eggs and a cold unresponsive chick. I managed to save that chick and the other 4 are happy and running around(the 2 were already in the brooder and three more hatched normally) So you can see it was a rough hatch. Anyway the last 2 eggs to hatch seem to have gotten the worst of the deal as they took longer to hatch and had complications getting out. So now I have this chick that seems to be unable to walk and it's legs look all puffy and I don't know what to do. It has looked like that since it hatched. I have made it a little ICU and am giving it water but I am not sure if I am helping it get better or making it suffer. The other chick of the 2 just passed away so I don't know if this is futile or not.

The chick just passed. Crap! This is my first hatch and first loss. Thanks for trying to help.
Sorry for your loss. :(

Maybe easier than having to make a choice on your first hatch. :hugs

Things happen... It isn't usually that rough of a go.

Power outages and such can cause major deformities I learned my first time around. I let those chicks live... but things got harder for them as they grew. Now I know some things I MUST cull right away.

Boy you had a LOT of things to learn from. :hmm

I bet your next hatch will go SOOO much better! :fl I wasn't sure I could deal with it. But alas, the JOY outweighs the hard decisions and it becomes addictive. I see more hatching in your future.

And congrats on the babes that made it! :celebrate
