This chick has quite a story. It has now come back into my possession and has a bent out leg. This just happened when it was traveling to its new home. I assume it slid or got stepped on by the other chicks it was with.

I already splinted it, but just wanted to see what people thought was wrong.

I assume a dislocated something or broken leg... Thoughts?

How should I treat it? Is splinting enough?

It would have been good to have seen it standing without a splint. Do you think the hip could be dislocated? Slipped tendon can be common, but pictures usually show the leg out to the side. I haven’t seen any chicks with slipped tendon, leg bone deformities, twisted legs, or dislocated hip. It can be hard to tell them apart, and most difficult thing is to figure out which it is. Sometimes it is easier to tell when they are older. The chick below has a presumed slipped tendon.

Here is a good link about fixing a slipped tendon:

I can get a pic without the splint. I honestly don't even know how this happened, but all I want to do is try to help it.

It's flipping out with the splint on. This is rough emotionally.

I am not a vet, so it is hard for me to know if this is a slipped tendon or a dislocated hip. A vet could be the best for help. Read post 15 in the link below by @WVduckchick where she describes how she has tried to fix a dislocated hip in a chick:

It might be worth a try.

Sometimes whatever you do may not help. Sometimes the chicks can get along well enough with the disability to get food and water. Please read all of the links above a few times. There are more online.

Thanks...

We don't have chicken vets where I live so a vet couldn't help, but I'll look at the links.

The tendon is not slipped I just checked.

It became like this after it's ride to its new home. It can hop around and such, but I'd like to fix it.

I've given it a head to toe exam. It's only that one leg.
