Chick is dying?

Came in from school to another dead chick. He was fine this morning, not underweight, not acting lethargic, no gasping. Really at a loss. Will send him off too

I really need to find out what is happening. I don't think he was smothered because he's one of the biggest

Im pretty sure you are dealing with coccidosis and you should start treating your chicks NOW.

I am going to go to our vet (she deals with poultry), the store doesn't have anything for coccidiosis

I'm using a heat lamp. It's about 15cm from the ground a 60Watt peach bulb. Their brooder is big so they have a cool side, they stay about half way between the two

Treat for coccidosis

Get a thermometer and make sure that the temperature under the bulb is not to hot. Starting at 90F for the first week and dropping 5 degrees per week. They need a cool spot to go to also so the outer parts of the brooder should be cooler

corid has the same ingredient and is widely available. I bought mine at TSC

Coxoid contains 3.84% of the drug amprolium hydrochloride which is a structural analogue of thiamine (vitamin B1). Amprolium hydrochloride mimicks it’s structure, inhibiting thiamine utilisation by the parasite.
