Thank you.

We knew he was getting close to the end but the doctors were trying to put in a ...... I can't remember what it is called now. My mind is now mud but it is when they feed someone food through a tube in their stomach ....... because he was unable to eat or talk anymore as his mouth was covered in ulcers. Sadly he was alone when he died. MIL is going to Wales in the morning. We are debating if we should send the kids to school in the morning or not. Eldest daughter was in tears when the chick died so we haven't told her yet about her great grandfather dying.

All in all not a very good day.

They have enough in the yolk that they absorbed before hatch to sustain them for 3 days. The temp in my hatcher is 96 to 98 with humidity at 60 to 70 percent and they have always done fine. Hope that helps.

Right now it is 98.2 and 67 more by a fluke than any design.

Forgot to say ..... Thank you.

It's a good thing that I can't sleep as I can keep one eye on the incubator and the other on the brooder.

I was going to have a funeral in the backyard for the chick tomorrow for the kids but now it would be a bad idea. So now don't know what to do with the dead chick.

I am so sorry for your losses. I am sure it has been a difficult day.

Do try to get some sleep.
You can bury the chick without ceremony. It is a natural thing and I'm sure the chick would be comfortable with a simple burial. This thread addresses that question if you would like more input.

My condolences on the loss of your DH's grandfather. Even if you knew it was coming - it's never easy.

I hope the new healthy chicks help your kids take their mind off of things, including the chick you lost.

Thank you and thank you for the link. I read it and it has made me think. I appreciate the effort.

It's 4:37 in the morning not enough time now to go to sleep.
