Chick lays funky

Our chicks are 7 weeks old now. I’ve noticed one acting off but not sure what’s up. It looks like it is laying on its side with legs straight out. She will get up and move a step or two and lay back down, dust bath some times and others just lay. If you pick her up and check her everything looks good, no bugs, no dirty vent. She will go eat/drink when you put her down, walks fine and then lays back down (sometimes normal other times not). She may seem a bit lethargic. Any ideas?

Can you get a video? The description reads like it could be "sunning" behaviour, but it could be indicative of something amiss....seeing, rather than envisioning, the actual chick will be instrumental in differentiating

How long does she lay there? Does she return to coop? How long has she been doing it? Are the others picking on her or leaving her alone?

I’ve only seen her do it when I check them in the evenings, I’ll try to get a video if she’s doing it tonight, this morning she was fine. When she is up and moving you can’t really tell her apart. I say possibly lethargic because when I put her back down she feels almost weak and slower to move than the others.

The couple times I’ve seen her doing it she has been down when I go in. I usually watch her 5 minutes or so, made her get up, then picked her up and checked her over. They are still in the “brooder,” have half the coop blocked off for them so they don’t leave the coop yet. Last night a few pecked at the shavings on her when she was down but I don’t think they’re really picking on her. She doesn’t have any visible signs they are either.

She Maybe feeling a little down. Or stressed if something happened, possibly at night in the coop. Try giving her some nutridrentch. Extra vitamins will help if sick, and give her a pick-me-up. What type of lights do you have in brooder? Is there anything else besides that light to give light?

We were talking about nutri drench last night, I have added some vitamins to one of the waterers with the cold snap we got. The lights are mostly red, one white I turn on as needed. During the day there is natural light.

We’ve had a good survival rate with our chicks , this one has me worried because it’s 1/47 that is acting odd, don’t think it’s a behavior thing. I’d hate to lose all of them if it is something.

I don’t see why you would loose them all. I would add 1ml directly in the beak. The eye dropper has the mark. Once in the morning depending on how she is doing maybe once at night. Sometimes if all they have is red light they will hit drowsy times through out the day. That’s where I was going with the light.

I was just meaning if it was something that was contagious. I’ll give the nutridrench a shot and see what happens. Thanks.
