Chick Leg Injury?

You have Nutri Drench or Poultry Cell in NZ? Vitamin with riboflavin ... Vitamin B Complex? The feet look red or bloody, is that just the lighting? Could you get a video (up load to You Tube, then link here) of it outside of the cage?

2x @azygous Have you checked for injury? Bruising? Bumblefoot?

Here's a helpful website ... https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/medicine-chart
Thanks, this one has some darker pigmented spots on the legs matching the uninjured side, but think I've found a few suspect bruises on the body and a blatant one on that side near the tail.

Can you put something more non-slip as footing in the crate? Like an old towel you don't care about or if you have some rubber mat- old door mat - anything but the slick plastic bottom of the crate.

In addition to a more non-slip type surface, I would give that baby a good bed of straw to rest in - a nice cushion to help catch itself and ease the impact. Speaking from experience, the "good" side will get tired supporting the injured side in the coming days. Enough times with the wing being put down for balance on a hard surface and you'll end up with damage there too. Think of it kind of like a padded room.

If you can find or order something like these, and attach them to the inside of the crate door, you'll find it so much easier to keep the crate dry (and therefore not stinky!!) A good investment for any time you've got a bird in a crate, especially one that's got mobility issues- more room in the crate with fewer things to navigate around.

It actually has a silicone pad under there that's pretty grippy and I've added a small hot water bottle(with snuggly) and towel for the night just in case
I think it'll spend more time out of the crate than not tomorrow, but already seems to be a bit better with some rest... Using me as a ladder to get to the top of the couch.

Oh good! Couldn't see the pad in the video. Hopefully the poor little is just bruised!!!

They've been outside from day dot and had a two week course of medicine for cocci. Stools are normal.

I deleted my post because my information was incorrect. I was confusing two different things. Sorry for the bother.

I hope she is better soon.

Guessing this is it - by the tail\hip

It could take a couple days for the extent of the bruising to really show up - definitely looks like that's the spot. Chicken bruises are green- being a chick, it will be easier to see because they don't have as many feathers.
Cheers, yeah. I took em for an Epsom bath which was ok... Until it wasn't. So a bit of a soak, but not as long as I would have liked. Followed up with some betadine and some anti-inflamatories left over from my last chook vet visit.
Will see how things go.

Actually, I was going to suggest an Epsom salt soak! I'd try again each day. Remember, this little one has NO life experience, so everything is new & great, until it's new & frightening. If a soak & a cuddle are routine, she might adjust faster than you think. And the minerals will absorb in thru the skin & help to lessen the swelling, soreness & speed her healing.

From the way her interactions with you have been described, she already knows that she's safe & loved. Good job!
