That is a good lesson to learn at a young age, true respect for life and the animals in your care.
He got the lesson early with our Bearded Dragon who had to be put down due to 'egg-binding' - she was unlikely to survive a surgery, so we had to make the call. I found out after the fact through the reptile community that was a genetic predisposition too as her stock was from a 'bad breeder' who was breeding for looks over health.
That seems to be a problem here in NZ - can't import any new breeding stock, so what's here is here. She was a year older than him, so he'd grown up with her and it was a bit harder.
