chick needs help

Hi all,

I have a 3 day old chick who will not eat or drink on her own. she runs in circles frantically and runs around the pen. She often slips and falls on her back and cant get up. she also keeps twisting her head. she has no problem moving her head or walking. i've been giving her yolk and water with electrolytes and vitamins but she doesn't like me force feeding her. any ideas or suggestions? shes getting very weak and constantly falling to her back.

Welcome to BYC. It could be symptoms of wry neck which can include twisting of neck, running in circles or backward. It is a neurological symptom, more likely due to a vitamin deficiency in the parent stock at this age or hereditary. It can also be a sign of head injury or brain inflammation. Give chick vitamins in the water that contain thiamine and vitamin E, plus selenium, found in eggs. Poultry Cell or NutriDrench vitamins would be a good choice that has all of those. Dosage is 1 ml daily. Dip it's beak into water for 1 second, then let it swallow several times an hour to make sure it is getting enough. Spread a few chick crumbles around its feet on paper towel to encourage eating. Hopefully, it will start acting more normal soon9.

Thanks for the advice. I gave her some vitamin E with selenium from the vitamins you suggested but she was too weak to bounce back I appreciate the advice though, I will keep it in mind for next batch
