This morning I noticed one of my checks is looking lethargic and had pasty butt so I cleaned it off and made sure she drank some water and then check back with her an hour later and she still seems like she’s not doing well she’s standing apart from the others not eating and drinking and she even tried to lay down. I normally put electrolytes in my chicks water but I don’t currently have any I’m planning on going to the store to get some is there anything else that I can give her?

Make sure ALL the pasty butt is gone. Check for other signs of sickness, too. Sugar water might help.

You can make your own electrolites in an emergency.

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons molasses OR 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon potassium chloride* (optional)
Potassium chloride is sold in grocery stores as 'salt substitute', if you don't have any just leave it out.

Thank you! I can’t buy any until tomorrow. I will give this a try.
