I feel you there, Sour! I'm anticipating power loss any minute, too. This wind is positively hateful! I'm not currently stable enough on my feet to brave the gusts, so I'm waiting for DS to come home so my feather-babies can get fresh water.

Yup it’s wild out there. I keep hearing thumps as things hit the house. Fortunately I went out and closed up the chickens just as it was getting bad. No way I am venturing out now!
Police and fire department just showed up - apparently they thought I had called 911.

What fruits at Christmas over there? Cherry?

My Mom ordered her proper Aussie "pudding" thingamie. It should be arriving any day now.

Our local stores have a lot of apples right now. Not sure if they are US grown atm since I don't really eat fresh apples. I drink their blood in the form of Martinelli's Apple juice which is from US fresh apples, no concentrate, no added acid. I can't get enough of it. Regular apple juice is so yicky in comparison.
Also, I used to drink a lot of Florida orange juice, but now with citrus greening hurting so much of the crops they started putting juice sourced elsewhere and reconstituted in it. So now I drink Natalie's orange juice which may be sourced elsewhere but is pure and squeezed while fresh.
I haven't been able to eat store pineapple since the summer we harvested our own. So spoiled now! A lot of the fruits and veg in the store is going downhill in quality with everything that's happening.

Does Florida has snow in winter or really cold? I was thinking Florida might be similar to California weather, warmer and might grow much fruits and vegetables. This information is from watching movies...

My state's weather is warmer, our winter is very mild, no snow and we are known as the banana state because we have so much banana. 99% of fruits and vegetables in the shops are grown in my state and some imported from other state. Occasionally we have grapes & orange import from America. I have not seen import orange for while now, just grape.

Mom says she doesn't know if they have Christmas pudding in America.
Ok, she just looked it up and there's no sign of anything like it.
They have fruitcake, but that's different, dryer and cakey, with less fruit.
She wanted her proper pudding, soaked in brandy with candied peels, fruits, and boiled not baked.

Americans (like me) hear pudding and think of something smooth and sweet, like chocolate, vanilla, tapioca etc. or rice pudding.
Which have all been ruined in stores by mega companies using artificial flavors and sugar, but people can make something nicer at home with real ingredients.

You were right! It's like Queensland. We are extra humid though due to ocean on both sides and swamps / ponds / canals and lots of rain most of the year.
Once a decade or so we might get a light dusting of snow on the northern border area, that melts in a few hours, but since the state is long and skinny most of it has never seen snow. I have never seen any here, although I did in other states.

We do grow a lot here, but due to capitalist interests a lot of our produce doesn't make it to our own stores. It gets put in cans or packaged food of some kind. We have a lot of tomatoes but they can't be grown in summer, it is too hot for them to set down this far south. So it's very early spring for those. I have to start my tomatoes inside in Jan, or in very late summer for an early winter crop.
This week we still have the ac on .

There was also a huge orange industry in FL. But the crops have been losing a 20+ year fight with a disease called citrus greening that slowly kills the whole tree.
The disease hasn't spread to California that which also has a big orange industry, so there are strict regulations on what oranges FL still produces, meaning most of them end up in a can as concentrate, or the Florida Orange juice company which used to use only fresh FL oranges. But if we pick up an intact orange in the store it's grown in Cali.
There's also large sugar cane production here, and strawberries (winter). Some blueberry farms, but again we don't get those in the store, just see a lot of You-Pick farms, which we never have the energy to get out of the car for in hot summer .

Mom and I have two Aussie Finger Lime trees! She was really excited to get them year before last. But they haven't really done anything. So early this year she spotted a University add for an event about Finger Limes open to the public. We went for an interesting lecture and tour through their finger lime fields.
They emphasized how Finger Limes are immune to citrus greening disease and would be a good choice for citrus farmers if the industry can drum up interest over here.
Apparently, we may have gotten a variety that doesn't set fruit. Which a big nursery spread around unwittingly when Finger Limes were first imported and they had an unknown cross pollination.
So we decided to give the trees another season to see if they would finally set fruit... and nothing. They're duds.

We spent a month in Queensland when I was a kid, and my uncle still lives there. My strongest memory is the roofs of the houses all being the same color.
But I always wanted to see the northern tropics and the islands like Green Island.
