Thank you! I was thinking of getting one built for at least 12 chickens just in case...like a 10x10 run plus the coop? I just want to make sure they are happy since they can't just roam the yard anytime due to predators.

I love that your little baby chickens are hanging out in the house That's a good point about the shavings. I hadn't thought about that but read that the dog pen was pretty easy to use. I will have to get my BF to make a mesh top for it so they won't escape.

That's a really good suggestion to just build larger than we think. And we can let them out back as long as we are there, but we have a lot of hawks and owls (for starters) that can snatch them away, so we will need something highly predator-proof.

Hardware cloth "top" on a box or tub will keep them in. Paper towel flooring...changed often works great for easy brooder clean up.
