Our chicks showed up today !!!!!
Sad part is there were three little ones that didn't make the trip. Good part is Miranda helped bury them in the back yard and she wasn't as upset as I thought a six year old little girl would be over something like that. We called the hatchery as soon as we got home and they said they would be sending us replacements. I emailed them pictures of the three so they can tell what to send us. We now have 29 1 day old chicks living next to the computer desk. Our other six got moved out to the shed/barn and are living in a nice big water trough with another heat lamp, three gallon waterer, and a new feeder. Should be interesting to see what happens now that those girls aren't in the house anymore. I'll post pictures later when I have the chance.
Peep at you all later,
Chris

Mine, and my barn owners chicks are supposed to ship from Ideal tomorrow! Arrive on Friday. I am just hoping they all make it with the heat. I am bringing the trough/brooder in tonight.

I ordered from Meyer Hatchery on May 29th and they won't get here till July 30th at the earliest.

14 Buckeyes - st run
11 Gold Laced Wyandottes - st run

I really wanted Chanteclers instead of the GLWs but I would have had to wait till August, so I'll get those next year.

At least this gives DH time to finish my coop.

Then again I need that coop soon because today one of my 3 week old guineas managed to fly to the top of the box they're in. I need to secure that cover better. I need a bigger box, too!

Okay.
I currently placed an order with Mcmurray, due to the fact that on Sunday, I lost a bunch of my young adult/teen chickens... and I'm talking a bunch.

So here is what I ordered, and the delivery date is July 14th:

2 str. run blue laced red wyandottes
1 speckled sussex female
2 buff orpington females
2 silver laced wyandotte females
3 silver spangled hamburg females
1 buff minorca female
2 blue andalusian females
2 str. run sultans
2 golden polish females
2 buff laced polish females
1 str. run black langshan
2 str. run white langshans
2 phoenix females (what color variety does mcmurray have?)
1 black giant female

& 1 free rare chick.

We ordered from mypetchicken all females (and paid the extra price too!). Yeah I know it's late in the season...maybe we'll get eggs in February!

Gosh I hope they ARE all girls...I just don't know what I'll do if one or more turns out to be roosters!

I have an order in through MyPetChicken that is supposed to ship on 6/23 and get here sometime in the following few days. Here's what I'm waiting on:

1 Australorp Pullet
3 White Leghorn Pullets
3 Lt Brown Leghorn Pullets
2 Buff Laced Polish Pullets
3 Silver Sebright Bantams
3 Gold Sebright Bantams

Funny thing is that I ordered these quite a while back, and since then I've done so much research and bought a bunch of chicks from the local feedstore so my plans for my ideal flock have changed quite a bit. I've read that the leghorns may lay a lot but can be flighty and loud.

I bought a australorp pullet and like her so much that I wish I'd ordered MORE of those.

I still want the polish because I had one when I was a kid and it was my favorite chicken.

I LOVED the idea of the sebrights when I ordered, but everyone says they are really skittish and flighty and aren't good 'pet' chickens. Plus, I ended up falling in love with the silkies and buying some of those, so I guess I will be selling the sebrights once they arrive.

Did your Sandhill order ever arrive?

I'm playing the waiting game with Sandhill this year too. I really want some of their birds - so I figure it's worth the agony of each back-up hatch date passing by without a call

I feel like a dork here, because I'm getting ducklings, not chicks, but I ordered...

6 Assorted Runner Ducks
6 Dutch Hookbills
3 Dark Campbells

...to add to my flock. My first hatch date was the end or April - but there's another backup this week, so I'm hoping to get a call tonight!

We got new chicks from McMurray yesterday.

My husband ordered 7 Rose Comb Brown Leghorns & 7 Blue Andalusians, 2 roos and 5 pullets of each type.

I ordered 5 Mille Fleur d'Uccles, 3 Golden Laced Cochin Bantams, and 3 Blue Cochin Bantams. They shorted me 2 d'Uccles and I am mad. They are going to refund that part of my order, but I wanted the chicks and have to order at least 25 more to get them now!
