Hi! First time chicken owner. My 4 day old Barred Rock chick is 'panting' occasionally. She sometimes moves her throat like she's gurgling.

I'm managing the heat lamp very closely. It's 95 degrees in half the brooder and down to 73-78 in the other half. She eats, drinks, plays, poops, etc., just like my 7 day old Red Star chick. But the 7 day old never does the 'pant'.

They sleep all over the brooder. She does seem to pant mostly while under the lamp, but not always. Since the other chick doesn't, it seems weird.

Can a younger chick like it cooler than an older chick? Any advice is appreciated by me, Nugget, and Patty. :)

I have noticed for the first week some of them randomly pant, it is like they are having issues remembering to drink or something. As long as she is drinking, eating, and pooping, I wouldn't worry about it, you are doing everything just right it sounds like.
