Chick personalities

I had a similar experience when my chicks were younger. I got 10 RIR and 12 Barred Rocks. The Barred Rocks seemed really friendly and social and the RIR not so much. But now that they are all 5 weeks old they have seemed to grow out of it. Now when I go into the coop to care for them every morning they all run over even the RIR. So I think that they tend to be more shy and not as social, but in time I think they will warm up to you.

CJkid, im sure they will, I was just a little put off because all my others chicks were so outgoing, and the RIR's were not....I just cant wait until they can go outside, and can socialize better/easier

oh =/ nevermind then... ok whaterver... Or what you could do is to sprinkle feed on one end of brooder, then put hand in other? Idk it sounds like you are doing it just fine =]

Thanks..I am jsut trying to give them time, and like I said, I have only had them for a week, so I dont expect miracles

I contributed to another thread and the topic of tame chicks came up. I told them to raise the brooder up onto a table and cut an access into the side. They took me literally and went in right that minute and sawed a door into the box with the chicks still inside. (They were that anxious to start taming them.)

They reported back that in a matter of hours, the demeanor of the chicks began to change. Approaching them from the side makes a TON of difference!

Are they any more tame now? I said earlier that my RIR was the shyest, now she is the sweetest and least shy. All three of my chicks will sit on me and are not afraid of anyone unless they are being chased (but who can blame them?). I sat down, they all climbed on but she was the first. Then when the other two got bored and jumped off, she still sat there on my lap listening to me talk to her. I had to take her off because I needed to go to inside. She is so sweet, and is definitely my favorite right now (don't tell the others). So Anyways, back to my first question. Are they any less timid now?
