So I was letting a broody hen hatch out some eggs, long story short, because of circumstances I had to move the chicks/mother hen to a new area. Because of this the eggs that hadn't hatched by then were moved to the incubator. One egg has pipped but the membrane isn't broken through, just the shell. I believe it piped today or last night. I know the chick is alive because I can hear it chirping, I'm afraid it might have dried out the membrane during the move.
How long should it go before I get worried? What should I do If I have to help the chick out? (if it comes to that) How can I tell that the membrane is too dry?
Here's a picture.
