Chick Pipping Almost 4 Days Early! UPDATE: They Hatched!

uh-oh. i checked on it this morning and the membrane was bloody. the hole was much bigger, i could see the beak and shoulder (the feathers are black

) but some of the membrane that was peeled back had some blood on it and the chick is peeping, but more weakly than before. there's another pipped egg, though

i checked again around lunchtime, hoping to see a peeping fuzzy head peering out, but instead i found the chick still in the shell, shrinkwrapped. i chipped off some shell and peeled back a little bit of the membrane. the chick is still breathing, but not cheaping so much anymore. i rubbed the broody's brood patch with a damp towl to add extra moisture an put the egg back. i wo't disturb them until about five tonight, i don't want the chick to dry out too much.

I know alot of people suggest to let it be But I have to disagree I had a buckeye once who was wrapped I knew I couldnt open my bator till hatch was over so I watched him for 3 days. He tried and tried so hard to get out of that shell that he had blood on his beak from trying so hard. If thats not a thriving chick I dont know what is. Carefully Break back the shell CAREFULLY. Do not pull or rip the solid white membrane yet. Just remove the shell. get some luke warm water and place it around the dry areas with your fingers. (Be sure to disinfect your hands first.) once you have the upper half of the shell removed completely Try to seperate the white membrane from the clear membrane. Since your chick hatched early it will probably bleed a bit Just be ever so careful when removing the white membrane. Once you have successfully accomplished that peel the clear membrane back so that you can access the chick. start from the top and work down. once you have removed shell and both membranes the chick should slide right out kinda place your hand under the shell (bottom half) and dump him into your hand. MAKE SURE that his head isnt but a quarter or a half inch from your palm. this way if he is still connected to his yolk sac you can and will see it and then stop emediatly. Find a warm box if thats the case make sure you get it to 95 degrees and place him in there still in his half shell till he releases his sac.
Chicks control there bleeding there brain sends them a message to stop the bleeding while they break at the membranes. you will see some blood and he will be exasted for some time I am sure. this is the best advice I can offer if you must interfier.

thank you i will try that in another hour or so if it still hasn't hatched. it is already bleeding some, so i don't want to hurt it.

I got her out just fine with no bleeding. The other chick shrink wrapped, too, but that one is now fine also. Unfortunetly, with all my interfering, the mother hen no longer accepts them. When i placed the chicks under her, she got up and started pecking them, so it looks like i'll have to raise them. There are only two (the other egg's a dud), one black with a white belly and wing tips and a white "bib" under her throat and cute grayish hackles, five toes, white skin, and a single comb. The other is all white, 4 toes, some black skin but not much, the rest is white, and a single comb. The black one's a d'uccle/silkie mix and she looks just like her mama

. The white one is a silkie/who knows what cross

i'm not sure why. Any other name suggestions for either one would be appreciated!

yeah, a lot of people have suggested yin and yang. the problem is, if i have to give one away because it's a rooster, then i'd just have a yin or a yang all alone and people would wonder why i have a chicken named yin! anyway, which is which? Is Yin white or black

?

Yin is white, it's considered positive energy..and male. Yang is negative...and female. Ancient Chinese culture was quite sexist.
