Chick pooping blood

At what age can one stop worrying about this happening This sounds horrible. Mine are 6 wks old. I am freaked this could happen to mine

I honestly don't know either. I just looked it up and I can only find the active ingredient which is Active drug ingredient: amprolium 5.67 gms per lb. Hopedully thepeacockguy will keep us updated and we can know if it works.

If you suspect or are not sure, treat them for cocci. Treating for cocci will not hurt chicks, but not treating(if they have cocci) will probably kill them.

Hi,
I just read your post. After having chickens for years I now have coccidiosis for the first time. What a nightmare. I bought a trio from someone, one pullet died within a week, the other failed to thrive and then died. The rooster seems okay. I put my new chicks in the same crate after cleaning, but not disinfecting it-----I didn't realize what was wrong with the trio. Now I know, it was coccidiosis.

I have lost so many chicks, they were very expensive. I didn't see any blood today, but the most active one is now ruffling his feathers and trying to sleep. Corid didn't seem to help in the first 24 hours, so last night I switched them to Sulmet. Only one of the four that I thought would be dead by morning died. I'm not sure what to expect now with new ones showing the ruffled feathers and lack of activity. I wonder if they are going through the illness but it won't be as bad. Do you know?

How long did you have them on corid? What dosage were you using, corid powder 1/2 tsp per gallon, Corid liquid 2 tsp per gallon. I know corid kills 9 strains of cocci, sulmet only 2. Make sure all chicks are treated,do not give vitamins during treatment, give vitamins after treatment is complete. Hard to say if it will be as bad, just make sure you are treating all chicks with the correct dosage. Make sure medicated water is the only water they have to drink.

They all survived the night :) everything's going good, they are looking better. Also last night there was another baby chicken and a peacock born :)
