Chick roosts with mom

Our chicken hatched one chick..the baby is now 2 weeks old and mom has taken to roosting on a shelf on the porch and refuses to go in the coop...the baby is also up there on the shelf with her.. I have no idea how that baby gets up 3 foot off the ground to the shelf as there is no way for it to climb up there and it still has down and baby feathers.. But the last few nights both mom and baby are happily sleeping on the shelf with baby under moms wing..

Any ideas on how the baby gets up there.

Well IMO it is flying up there, not directly but in steps a short flight here and one there going a little higher with each one. Mom prob showed the chick how to get up there

My 2.5 year old Australorp escaped the coop and I found her upstairs in a windowsill!

At that age it's not so much flying but leaping. They can jump pretty high!
