Chick Sexing... Check this out!!

I saw this and the other hatchery video and that is why I am never ordering from any hatchery agian. The poor little bitties no wonder they are so scared when thy arrive. I love my liittle hatchlings thy allways pop out of momma to see when I call to them.

Oh my goodness, they are so rough with those babies! Okay, I know chicks are tougher than they look and all, but dang--that's just... ouch. Makes me glad I got straight-run babies from an individual farm instead of a hatchery.

Wow, that was really interesting, but I had to turn it off during the feather sexing *cringe*. Picking them up by their little wings and just tossing them over! Maybe I'm the abnormal one--day 1 and 2 after I got my chicks, I treated them like they were made out of glass

I actually saw that episode when it aired. Poor little chickies.

First they have to work hard to get out of the shell, then they get tossed around, stuffed in a box and shipped cross country. What a heck of a start! That's why they deserve to be coddled when they finally reach their final destination.

Wow is all I have to say. That was interesting but I was so worried seeing them tossed around. Doesn't it hurt to have someone squirt poo out of you? I'd be jack slapping someone if they squeezed on my belly like that. They all are so darn cute though.

Thanks for posting that, I squirmed around in my chair the entire time I watched it.
How good is feather sexing anyway?
Is there a link with this info on it somewhere, Ide kinda like to know more about what breeds this works with.
I dont think ill be doing the poo squirt method anytime soon

I was in the Orschelns feed store the other day, and the manager was moving chicks from one bin to different stacked container.
He was SOOOOOO rough, and it was the Respect a Chicken day too! I even said ..."be easy now, it's respect a chicken day!". He just gave me an exasperated rather dirty look.
He grabbed about thirty at a time, with beaks and legs and bottoms and tops all hanging out all over the place in a tight bundle, and tossed them none to gently in the other container area. The kid (teen boy) helping him was SOOO gentle but he was only carrying about 5 at at time. It was hard to watch!
I REALLY dislike that manager, he snaps at me too whenever I ask a question.

I think they all think I am the local goofball, watching the chicks for 2 hours at a time every time I come in.
I asked about organic feed, and they looked at me like I had two heads. I have NO idea where to find that. I sure hate the crap I am giving them, boy does it stink. No wonder the lil buggers smell so bad, they smell JUST like their food.

Now I know why the little chicks are so scared of human hands at first. They're expecting to be thrown, squeezed and rough handled.

They do however learn pretty quick that our hands bring food and petting!
